Ceridwen Jane Gray
Whilst recognising that artifice is a survival tool
and is also one of power, I try to see past the
facades of myself, of others and my surroundings
to find the essence – delving into chaos –to
glimpse the true nature of the subject. In this way
the essence is perceived.
I seek to express this perception through the style of painting that
I call Organic Expressionism where my paintings evolve rather than are preconceived. The
paintings are built up through many layers of different materials and glazes in order to express
the depth and complexity that constitutes our journey through life. All are abstractions to a
greater or lesser degree.
I have been influenced by everything under the sun, but particularly the work of Kandinsky,
Rauschenburg, Frankenthaler, Rothko, Abstract Expressionism, Symbolism and the Bauhaus.
